TWO NEW BEATLES TRIBUTE BANDS

 During the winter of 2009 Mal Evans Memorial Band came to an end.
The ex-bandmembers look back at 5 wonderful years. To the peolple who came and saw us and to our fans we would like to say: Thanks a lot for all the great feed back we've got through the years, the unforgetable moments we went through (You should have seen it from the stage point of view!) and the enthousiasm we recieved from you all.
The biggest part of the line-up was wasn't tired of playing Beatles. The road of Mal Evans Memorial Band split up in two new and exiting directions:
LOVE & MERSEY

With Marcel, Martin, Jan en Roel from Mal Evans Memorial Band, which was awarded the first Golden Apple Award as best Beatles Tribute Band by ‘Beatles Unlimited’ in 2005. The band performed 3 years in a row during the prestigious Beatle week in Liverpool where they played the famous stage of the Cavern several times. They also played a tremendous show before a 10.000 strong frenzied audience at the Beatles Festival in Belarus, introduced their CD ‘The Beatles in het Nederlands’ (The Beatles in Dutch) on Dutch national television, performed with orchestras, on rooftops and on the canals of Utrecht with thousands of people on the sunny quay sides. The band was well-known and managed to leave an unforgettable impression on Beatle fans in the international Beatles circuit.

This heart of ‘Love & Mersey’ is completed with two conservatory schooled and attractive musicians from Macca. This McCartney tribute band had its promising debut during the 29th International Beatles convention at the Musketon Theatre in Utrecht and performed successfully during the Night of Culture in Houten. They were especially praised by Beatle experts for their performances of the often quite difficult McCartney/Wings classics.

This rock solid cast of musician guarantees a unparalleled sixties revival night, where one can sing along to ones heart content to all the well-known Beatle songs, paint the dance floor red to their beat- and rock & roll classics, or dream away to their unforgettable ballads. ‘Love & Mersey’ also offers a full evening’s entertainment suitable for theatres, where Beatle classics are alternated with entertaining references to the time that saw the world famous songs come about. In short, Love & Mersey, is an indispensable journey through time where you will experience the music of the Beatles as passionately and meticulously as when it was first played back in the sixties.

THE OLD BROWN SHOES

Met JP en Janneke uit Mal Evans Memorial Band. Zij fuseerden met Strawberry Beats. Alsof het zo moest zijn, een aantal leden van beide bands waren het Beatles-spelen moe en haakten af, daardoor kwamen beide bands ter ziele. Maar neem een JP en Janneke van de ene band, en Sjoerd, Hans en Michel van de andere band en zo pastte het precies weer in elkaar!

Over de ervaring aan optredens in vorige bands hoeven we het eigenlijk niet te hebben, maar in het kort gezegd; 3x tijdens de Beatlesweek in Liverpool gespeeld, Wit Rusland, talloze optredens in Nederland door de grachten van Utrecht, op tv tijdens de wereld draait door met de cd Beatles in het Nederlands, een dvd werd gemaakt, dakconcerten, etc etc.

Nu, deze 5 doorgewinterde Beatleslovers en professionele muzikanten speelden onlangs voor duizenden mensen in Venlo tijdens het parkfeest, bij RTV radio Utrecht live in de uitzending op de dag dat de Beatlesbox gereleased werd, tijdens Hilversum on air en met harmonie orkest Juliana in Moergestel.

Er komen al weer nieuwe aanvragen binnen voor optredens, en zoals u begrijpt The Old Brown Shoes komen graag naar feesten en festivals! Ze staan klaar en hebben er zin in! Deze band staat garant voor een prachtige vertolking van Beatles songs en solo werk van de heren, met naast professionaliteit en bezieling op hun eigen instrument ook nog eens prachtige zangstemmen. 26.11.2008: Contribution on Dutch 'White Album' compilation CD
Our Dutch version of 'Back in the USSR' was added to the free compilation CD of the Dutch Revolver magazine. This disc was released to celebrate the 40th aniversary of 'The White Album'. More information: www.revolvermagazine.nl
07.06.2008: Liverpool 2008

For the third time!!! Proud and pleased we can announce that we've been invited to play in Liverpool, during Beatles Week 2008 again. The city is Capital of Culture of Europe 2008, so this promises the best! Jan en Janneke's new McCartney tribute Macca will join us. The stages and locations we're programmed this year are even more interesting than during our previous Beatles Week trips. Let's not forget to mention the fact that we have a very very special and surprising setlist this year.
Beatles Week 2008 takes place from August 20th to 27th.

02.12.2007: Introducing: Roel, our new MEMBer

To help recreate the ingenious sounds and arrangements of our musical heroes and get even closer to the heart of their songs, we decided to look for an extra guitar player. It didn’t take long for us to choose Roel Weggemans.

His first bands, when he was just 16, played a variety of music covering pop, blues, rhythm and blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll. The Blue Tomatoes, Mr. Groove, Hark The Voice and Weekend Warriors were his initial bands. Hark The Voice toured Switzerland a couple of times. Roel is currently involved with zydeco music in Zydeco Fever and another Beatle project.

One of the joys of dissecting and playing Beatle songs is the surprise of finding some new twist in each and every song no matter how often they’re played.

Roel took over from Harry for one gig in 2006 and the band were really pleased by his sound and versatility. So why wait any longer?…..give him a big hand!

Finally, here it is: The new website. It was based on the design of the old one, but we made some important changes: The navigation is clearer, there's more room for text and pictures, there's more information and a photo album will be created.
